How to Apply Wallpaper to Your Desktop

Do you wish to use different wallpapers on your desktop rather than the same old boring ones that came with your computer but not quite sure how to do it?   This is a tutorial written for XP and ME, but if you can find your Control Panel on your system, you should be able to follow along.

Here's how you do it:

First, you need to find those wallpapers. You can download them off the net or you can join one of the many groups on Yahoo or Google.

Make a file folder somewhere on your hard drive where you keep all your goodies and name it Wallpaper.  Inside that folder, you may wish to have other sub-folders for the different categories of wallpaper i.e. "Seasonal", "Christmas, "Spiritual", etc.

Now, let's apply one of them to your desktop.

In XP, go to Start and it should pull up a menu where you can locate your Control Panel.

In ME go to Start and find Settings, then Control Panel.

In the Control Panel, locate the Display icon. Double click on it to open it.

In XP you want to click on the "Desktop" tab on the top and in ME you want to click on the "Background" tab. Both of these will pull up a window that looks like this:

(ME operating system)

#1 - Browse to the file folder on your hard drive where you have saved your wallpaper, choose one and click on "open" or simply double click on the wallpaper. It will display itself in the computer window. If you like the way it looks, click on "Apply" and "OK" and you will now have it on your desktop.

#2 - There are three options under Picture Display, ";center", "stretch" and "tile". Play with these to see what they do. Sometimes I use "stretch" as it gives a better proportion, especially if I am downloading a wallpaper that is not made specifically for my screen resolution. If you do not know to to find your screen resolution, please see my tutorial.

That's it! Pretty easy, huh? If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
