The Script Toolbar

Let's dig a little deeper into what the Script function can do for you.Below are the functions found on the toolbar and what they do.

1) Below is our little kitty tag again. If you do not have the Script Toolbar showing, go to View/Toolbars/Script.

There is a drop-down list shown below. (#1) You will find the scripts that are saved in PSP 8's Script-trusted and Scripts-Restricted files. Most of these are in the program itself. ; Have fun playing around them them to see what they do. Make sure you are playing on a duplicate of your tag...not your original! But you will see that the new script you just made is there also. (Remember when we did Preferences back in Part 1?) To run the script, highlight it and click on the blue "run" arrow (#2) next to it.

3) Number 3 looks like a scroll with a quill on top of it. This is the Script Editor. This is a really cool function and I'm going to show you how it works. We're going to spend a little time on this one because it's so important if you really want to get efficient with using your scripts.

Click on it and open it up. There's your script and what it looks like step by step. Notice these things; there is a check mark next to each step which means that right now, that particular step will be executed. Then, there is a drop-down box for each step and finally, the name of the step itself. Please note that it says if it's editable or not. Please see the next picture.

Below you will see the same Script Editor with one of the drop-down boxes expanded. There are 3 choices here; default, interactive and silent. Default is whatever the script has set up for its default. Interactive gives you the wonderful choice of being able to edit those things that DO NOT have "not editable" after it. See the picture above? The only thing that is editable in this script is the Inner Bevel and the Drop Shadow. While the script is running, when the Inner Bevel step starts to execute, the Inner Bevel window will open just like normal. At that time, if you wish to make changes to the script, you can. Same thing for the Drop Shadow. For example, say I'm making ten tags. But for some reason, on Wilma's tag, I want to make a different Inner Bevel. If I change the script so that Inner Bevel is marked as "interactive" it means that when the script gets to that part, a window will open and I will be able to make changes to the bevel on Wilma's tag. That window will continue to open for every tag I want to do until I reset it to either default or silent. Silent simply means the script runs through the entire thing, without giving you the option to make changes as it runs.

4) Button #4 is the Interactive Script Playback Toggle. That simply means if you have a script where it is all set to "silent"; and for this one run you wish it to be interactive, you click on that. It will change it to interactive for that one run. This means you don't have to go into the Script Editor and redo your settings. When the button shows a border, it is set to Interactive mode.

5) Button #5 is where you can select your script from a different path if it is not showing in window #1.

6) Stop the script while it is running.

7) Start Script Recording.

8) Pause Script Recording.

9) Cancel Script Recordiing

10) Save Script Recording.

These are all the same functions you can find under File/Script.
